Dobri Paliev's "Folk Suite" systematically develops the ability of the student to learn and become more familiar with the odd meters in Bulgarian Folk music.

The piece is divided into five short (32 bars each) parts. The first part is written in 5/8; the second in 7/8; third in 9/8; forth in 11/8 and the last includes a variety of odd and regular meters. Paliev's approach towards odd meters is rather melodic, derived from the different dances and songs of Bulgarian Folk music.

There are a variety of strokes and surfaces used including; the rim, cross sticking as well as the separation of the drum head into three areas, producing a very melodic sound.
